interesting to note how many and what variety of ideas contributed to Journey

We are
accustomed to talking of other universes. Of course talk of multiple universes
refers to causally unconnected domains – there is exactly one universe
We talk of
possible worlds. This idea is close to – if not the same as – the idea of
conceivable worlds. The one universe is the only universe. If there was a
beginning then there was nothing before the beginning – anything that was
before the “beginning” was part of the universe. In a sense there is only one
possible world
Is it
possible for there to be a universe without sentience? Is it possible for there
to be a universe in which sentience is not possible? Since there is only one
universe it is better to ask whether it is possible for sentience to be
impossible. Can it be conceived that sentience never was, is not, or never will
be? It is not necessary to refer to the universe since there is only one
In the same
sense everything there is – is necessary
